Spin-Induced Scalarized Black Holes

چکیده
It was recently shown that a scalar field suitably coupled to the Gauss-Bonnet invariant $\mathcal{G}$ can undergo spin-induced linear tachyonic instability near Kerr black hole. This appears only once dimensionless spin $j$ is sufficiently large, is, $j\ensuremath{\gtrsim}0.5$. A hallmark of spontaneous scalarization. Focusing, for illustrative purposes, on class theories do exhibit this instability, we show stationary, rotating hole solutions indeed have hair threshold exceeded, while holes lie below are described by solution. Our results provide strong support

Spin and Relativistic Phenomena Around Black Holes
Ever since the seminal work of Penrose (1969) and Blandford & Znajek (1977), it has been realized that black hole spin may be an important energy source in astrophysics. X-ray observations are uniquely able to answer: Does black hole spin play a crucial role in powering relativistic jets such as those seen from radio-loud active galactic nuclei (AGN), Galactic microquasars, and Gamma-Ray Bursts...
متن کاملMaximum spin of black holes driving jets
Unbound outflows in the form of highly collimated jets and broad winds appear to be a ubiquitous feature of accreting black hole systems. The most powerful jets are thought to derive a significant fraction, if not the majority, of their power from the rotational energy of the black hole. Whatever the precise mechanism that causes them, these jets must, therefore, exert a braking torque on the b...
متن کاملPhase Structure of Higher Spin Black Holes
We revisit the study of the phase structure of higher spin black holes carried out in arXiv: 1210.0284 using the “canonical formalism”. In particular we study the low as well as the high temperature regimes. We show that the Hawking-Page transition takes place in the low temperature regime. The thermodynamically favoured phase changes from conical surplus to black holes and then again to conica...
متن کاملDirty Black Holes and Hairy Black Holes.
An approach based on considerations of the non-classical energy momentum tensor outside the event horizon of a black hole provides additional physical insight into the nature of discrete quantum hair on black holes and its effect on black hole temperature. Our analysis both extends previous work based on the Euclidean action techniques, and corrects an omission in that work. We also raise sever...
متن کاملMeasurement of Mass and Spin of Black Holes with QPOs
There are now four low mass X-ray binaries with black holes which show twin resonant-like HFQPOs. Similar QPOs might have been found in Sgr A∗. I review the power spectral density distributions of the three X-ray flares and the six NIR flares published for Sgr A∗ so far, in order to look for more similarities than just the frequencies between the microquasar black holes and Sgr A∗. The three X-...
